"Mirror Sea, Mirror Sky"
|
Arni - "I had seen this view from the West End of
Provincetown in the daytime in very uninteresting light, but I
thought I might return on another day to see if a different aspect
would reveal itself. A few days later I missed my early
alarm clock and awoke at about 5:25 am without the possibility
of traveling far to make a shooting site. I decided to take
a gamble on this previously bland viewpoint. Not having
to go far I arrived just as the sky was beginning to lighten at
the very edges. While walking to the location I wanted on
the beach, I saw three bees sleeping in the cup of a flower.
The birds heralded the coming of a new day. Taking exposures
between 30 seconds to two minutes to 'bracket' the exposure, I
was blessed with a calm sea which was smooth as glass. This
allowed the beautifully colored sky to be mirrored in the water
giving a double treat. The stars formed by the lights in
the pier are the result of an aperture of f11 used to give
me good depth of field. Five minutes later the red ball
of the sun turned the scene into an entirely different palette
of color which I also captured. I prefer not to show the
two images together lest they compete with one another.
Of the two, this is my favorite."
